Bello Shelties is a small hobby kennel located in upper York County just minutes away from beautiful Williamsburg Virginia
I like to think that I'm the extension of my Aunt's kennel located in Freeland Michigan (see MaKats Kennel on the links page) - except that I'm the black & blue side of the family while she's the brown. My first sheltie "experience" when I was a small child was my aunt's tri-colored boy named Andy. He was smart as a whip and excelled in the obedience ring. Andy would round up us little ones when we strayed out of the adults sight - who would've thought some 40 years later that I would carry on this family tradition in starting my own kennel?
In 2001, I was given a wonderful birthday gift from my aunt - a dark mahogany colored furball ~ Brady ~ waltzed into my life and has been my best friend ever since! There isn't any form of competition / show / activity that he wouldn't participate in if it made me happy. He is truly my "old-soul" boy and a fantastic therapy dog because of his sensitive nature.
In 2006, an opportunity from a close family friend to "grow out / foster / co-own" came to me via our Mercedes!! This princess stole my heart from the moment I layed eyes on her - and has been my "velcro" girl from the get-go! She needed some maturing up and self confidence work in the ring. And oh my....what beautiful babies she has given me to "officially" start the Bello lines. My life has been truly blessed in family and the many friends I've made on this Sheltie journey - of which I wouldn't trade for the world!!
I breed sparingly with one to two litters every other year as this allows me to be selective in my breeding program. All my breeding stock are tested for hips, eyes, genetics, etc. Here at Bello, I strive to breed to the Shetland Sheepdog standard in mind, body, health & temperment. I strongly believe this is important for the preservation of our breed. These dogs are companion pets first before they ever enter a show ring!!
All of the dogs are raised in my home and are an integral part of my family and household. I keep my numbers low - 6 to 7 at a time. Of course we welcome visitors from time to time, and for the comfort of my family as well as the dogs, I keep the those numbers limited as well.
I am selective in placing my puppies, I do not advertise in the newspaper, families come to me through other breeders or contacts I've made over the years. Companion puppies are sold on a spay / neuter contract. If you are interested in a Sheltie puppy or adult, I may not have one available at the time you are looking, but I may know of a reputable breeder that does, drop me a line via the email link on the "links" page.
